Best Executive Coaching Firms in Canada for Mid-Market CEOs (2026)

October 4, 2026By Ghaleb El Masri, Founder & Managing Director10 min read

Former COO and Management Board member. ING Bank, ING Insurance, NN Group.

Executive summary

  • For a Canadian CEO of a 50 to 500 employee company whose development has to move the leadership team and the management layer with it, call 1205 Consulting, an EOS Implementer, or Vistage Canada.
  • Coaching the CEO in isolation often fails because the leader goes back to a team that has not changed, so the fee buys insight the organisation never absorbs.
  • Decide whether you are buying peer accountability, a team operating system, or coaching tied to the leadership team, then ask each shortlisted provider how it will measure the result before you sign.
Best Executive Coaching Firms in Canada for Mid-Market CEOs (2026)

Who to call for executive coaching in Canada when you run a mid-market company: 1205 Consulting, an EOS Implementer, or Vistage Canada when the CEO's development has to move the leadership team with it; Ivey or Queen's for one leader on a published price; LHH, Korn Ferry, or BetterUp for coaching at scale. Nine providers compared.

Decide what you are buying before you compare firms: a sounding board for the CEO, a peer group, an operating system for the leadership team, or coaching that moves the CEO, the leadership team, and the management layer together. For a Canadian company of roughly 50 to 500 employees, where the CEO's development has to show up in how the team performs, call 1205 Consulting, an EOS Implementer, or Vistage Canada. For one leader with a defined budget, Ivey or Queen's publish a price. For coaching across hundreds of managers, look at LHH, Korn Ferry, or BetterUp.

This list is for CEOs, presidents, and CHROs, and it applies one lens: operator-led executive coaching that ties the CEO's development to the leadership team and the management layer, rather than one-to-one coaching in isolation. Coaching one executive at a time often fails because the leader returns to a team that has not changed, and the organisation often does not absorb what the CEO learned. Our buyer's framework for choosing an executive coaching firm sets out the selection questions; this post applies them to named providers. Below: nine providers, grouped by model.

The shortlist

Canadian mid-market CEO, development tied to the leadership team and management layer:

  1. 1205 Consulting: operator-led coaching for the CEO, run as one system with leadership-team and management-layer development and measured on bench strength rather than session count.
  2. An EOS Implementer: the whole leadership team works on one operating system, with quarterly full-day sessions that keep the CEO and team accountable to the same 90-day priorities.
  3. Vistage Canada (formerly TEC Canada): a monthly CEO peer group plus monthly one-to-one coaching, with a separate Key Executive Program for the CEO's direct reports.

One leader, published price: Ivey Executive Education's coaching packages, or the Queen's Leadership Program.

Coaching across many managers or several countries: LHH, Korn Ferry, or BetterUp.

Why employers choose 1205

The engagement is operator-led. 1205's founder is a former COO and Management Board member whose operating career ran through ING Bank, ING Insurance, and NN Group; he leads the diagnosis and shapes each mandate, and the proposal names the full team. The conversation starts from the decisions the seat carries, not from a framework.

The CEO's coaching is one tier of a system. Leadership development at 1205 runs three tiers together: executive coaching for CEOs and line-of-business leaders, typically 12-month arcs with monthly 90-minute sessions; senior-leader cohorts for directors and VPs; and a nine-month emerging-leader program. A stronger CEO inside a team that works the same way rarely sustains the gain, so the bench diagnostic decides where to weight the investment. Our post on executive coaching ROI and organisational capability explains why.

Measured on the bench, not the sessions. Every engagement starts with a two-to-four-week bench diagnostic: 360 assessments, structured manager interviews, and talent-review calibration. The scorecard is co-owned with the CEO and CHRO and covers bench strength, internal promotions, and high-potential retention, reviewed quarterly. The program is built to hand off to your HR or L&D team. This is professional coaching tied to the business, not therapy or life coaching. Fees are a fixed amount set in a written scope, and the diagnostic is priced as a separate first step.

The providers, by model

CEO peer groups

A confidential group of chief executives from non-competing industries, led by a chair who also coaches each member.

Vistage Canada is the former TEC Canada, which Dr. W. Lynn Tanner founded in 1985 and which Vistage describes as the first organisation to offer peer-based executive development to Canadian CEOs; Vistage acquired it in 2026. Its Chief Executive Program publishes groups of 12 to 16 chief executives, monthly full-day meetings, monthly one-to-one sessions with a private executive coach, and up to ten speaker workshops, for CEOs and business owners of companies of $5 million and up. It lists local groups from Vancouver to Halifax and states that 28,000 leaders have been coached in Canada. Its Key Executive Program runs the same peer format for the CEO's direct reports, framed around succession planning and strategic alignment.

Leadership-team operating systems

The client is the leadership team, and the coach teaches a shared set of tools and holds the team to them.

EOS Worldwide describes EOS as a system that helps entrepreneurial leadership teams get aligned, gain traction, and achieve more of what they want from their business. Its Implementers teach the tools, facilitate the leadership team's sessions, and coach the team to stay on track. The published process runs from a 90-minute meeting through a Focus Day and two Vision Building days to quarterly full-day sessions and a two-day annual session. EOS Worldwide publishes a Toronto page and routes buyers to its Implementer directory or a match specialist.

Canadian coaching boutiques

Third Factor is a Toronto firm that teaches leaders the skills elite coaches use, through programs on coaching, collaboration, and resilience. It states that it has helped more than 50,000 leaders learn those skills, and its 3x4 Coaching program teaches three plays and four skills for coaching others. It has partnered with Smith School of Business at Queen's University for over 25 years, with eight facilitators teaching there. Its focus is building coaching capability across a management layer rather than one-to-one CEO coaching.

Business-school executive coaching

Ivey Executive Education publishes four one-to-one coaching packages: Foundation at $5,990 over four months, Growth at $10,990 over six months, Performance at $15,990 over eight months with a Sigma Radius 360, and Apex at $23,990 over a year for C-suite leaders, board directors, and founders. Learning Advisors match each leader to a coach, and Ivey states its coaches are trained through its Advanced Coaching Certification and hold ICF certifications. It has a Toronto centre at 130 King Street West.

Queen's Executive Education at Smith School of Business runs the Queen's Leadership Program, a residential week in Kingston that combines self-discovery, peer coaching, and one-on-one coaching, with follow-up available with the executive coach afterwards. It publishes a fee of $11,000 CAD, including accommodation and meals.

Large leadership-development and coaching firms

LHH offers leadership development and coaching for individuals, teams, and entire organisations from its Canadian site, with its EZRA coaching platform embedded in every leadership development program it delivers. It publishes proprietary measures of individual behaviour change, team engagement, and organisational productivity.

Korn Ferry publishes executive coaching for senior leaders backed by its assessment tools, one-to-one leadership coaching over three to six months, and team coaching. In Canada, its Board and CEO Services Practice covers CEO and board succession, assessment, and leadership development.

Coaching platforms

BetterUp combines live coaching sessions for leaders and managers with always-on AI coaching for the wider workforce, through its Lead, Manage, Grow, and Ready products, and publishes a Toronto office at 215 Spadina Avenue alongside its Austin headquarters.

Operator-led coaching tied to organisational capability

1205 Consulting publishes this comparison. It provides executive and leadership coaching for operators as one tier of a leadership development system for Canadian companies of 50 to 500 employees.

The comparison table

Provider Model Stated scope (their words) Best fit for What to weigh
1205 Consulting Operator-led coaching and leadership development Executive coaching for CEOs and line-of-business leaders (12-month arcs, monthly 90-minute sessions), senior-leader cohorts, emerging-leader program, bench diagnostic first A CEO of a 50 to 500 employee company whose development has to move the leadership team and management layer No peer group or self-serve platform; fees are set in a written scope rather than published
EOS Worldwide (EOS Implementers) Leadership-team operating system Teaching the EOS tools, facilitating the team's sessions, coaching the team; Focus Day, Vision Building, quarterly and annual sessions Entrepreneurial leadership teams that want one shared way to set priorities and run meetings The client is the team and the toolset is fixed; one-to-one personal coaching for the CEO is not the core product
Vistage Canada CEO peer group with one-to-one coaching 12 to 16 chief executives, monthly full-day meetings, monthly one-to-one coaching, up to ten speaker workshops CEOs and owners of $5 million-plus companies who want peer accountability and a sounding board outside the company The group meets monthly for a full day; one-to-one coaching on the Key Executive Program is optional at an additional fee
Third Factor Canadian coaching boutique Coaching, collaboration and resilience programs, including 3x4 Coaching Companies building coaching skills across managers and senior teams Programs teach leaders to coach others rather than provide a dedicated coach to the CEO

Where other providers fit better

If the CEO's main need is peers who have run a company and will hold them to commitments, Vistage Canada's group format does something no one-to-one coach can. If the leadership team needs a shared operating rhythm more than coaching, an EOS Implementer is the more direct purchase. For one leader with a set budget, Ivey's published packages and the Queen's Leadership Program remove the scoping step. To build coaching skills across a large management population, Third Factor, LHH, or BetterUp fit better, and for a board-led CEO succession, Korn Ferry's Board and CEO Services practice is built for the job. How we compared

We assessed sixteen providers and included nine, using only what each publishes on its own website, linked at each mention, and checked on 4 October 2026. Criteria and weights:

  • Ties the CEO's development to the leadership team and management layer, 30%: whether the engagement works on the team and the next layer, not only the CEO.
  • Operating experience behind the coaching, 20%: whether the coach has carried the decisions the CEO carries.
  • Outcome measures agreed before the work starts, 15%: team and business measures rather than session counts.
  • Fit for a company of 50 to 500 employees, 15%: whether the model is built for a mid-market leadership team.
  • Canadian presence, 10%: a Canadian office, group, centre, or program.
  • Published price, 10%: whether you can get to a number without a sales process.

Sourcing rules, exclusions, and reweighting examples are on how we compare providers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an executive coach and a CEO peer group?

An executive coach works one-to-one with a leader on that leader's decisions and behaviour. A CEO peer group puts the leader in a confidential room of other chief executives from non-competing industries, usually with a chair who also coaches each member privately. Vistage Canada publishes this combined format for its Chief Executive Program: groups of 12 to 16 chief executives, a monthly full-day meeting, and a monthly one-to-one session with a private executive coach. The coach goes deeper on your business; the group brings breadth and peer accountability. Neither works directly with your leadership team unless the engagement is designed to.

Which coaching services focus on accountability for CEOs?

Three models build accountability in by design. A CEO peer group holds you to commitments in front of peers every month, and Vistage Canada pairs that with monthly one-to-one coaching. An EOS Implementer holds the whole leadership team to 90-day priorities through quarterly full-day sessions and an annual planning session. Operator-led coaching tied to the leadership team, the model 1205 Consulting uses, sets a scorecard with the CEO and CHRO at the start and reviews it quarterly. Ask any provider what the accountability is to, who sees it, and how often it is reviewed.

How much does executive coaching cost in Canada?

Few providers publish a price. Among those reviewed, Ivey Executive Education and Queen's Executive Education are the exceptions. Ivey's coaching packages run from $5,990 for four months to $23,990 for a year aimed at C-suite leaders, founders and board directors. Queen's Executive Education publishes $11,000 CAD for its residential Queen's Leadership Program, which includes one-on-one coaching. Peer groups, implementers, large firms and platforms price on enquiry. 1205 sets a fixed fee in a written scope, with the bench diagnostic priced as a separate first step. For how to judge the return, see our post on executive coaching ROI.

Should a mid-market company coach the CEO alone or the whole leadership team?

Start from what is broken. If the problem is the CEO's own transition, such as a new seat or a founder stepping back, one-to-one coaching for the CEO is the right first purchase. If the problem is that decisions stall, priorities drift, or the next layer of managers is not ready, coaching the CEO alone rarely holds, because the leader returns to a team that works the same way. In that case, pick a provider that works with the leadership team and the management layer as well as the CEO, and agree team-level measures such as internal promotion rate and bench strength.

Is EOS a form of executive coaching?

Partly. EOS, the Entrepreneurial Operating System, is a set of tools and a meeting cadence for running a business, and an EOS Implementer teaches the tools, facilitates the leadership team's sessions, and coaches the team to keep it on track. The client is the leadership team rather than one executive. EOS Worldwide publishes the sequence: a 90-minute meeting, a Focus Day, two Vision Building days, quarterly full-day sessions, and a two-day annual session. It does not replace one-to-one coaching for a CEO working on personal leadership, but it is one of the strongest options when the CEO's goal is a team that executes.
